The tallest boat lift is the Krasnoyarsk Dam ship lift. The dam is a 124-m-high (407-ft) concrete gravity dam located on the Yenisei River in Russia. The ship lift comprises a flooded chamber in which the ship sits while it traverses the 124-m height on a 9-m-wide (29.5-ft) tracked slope 1,510 m (4,954 ft) in length, including underwater track to allow the ship to enter. The chamber is 113 m in length and 26 m in width, and can carry ships weighing up to 1,500 imperial tons (1.5 metric tonnes) in weight and 90 m long by 18 m wide. The ship lift moves its heavy cargo at 1 metre per second (2.2 mph) and commenced operations in 1976, but was not officially opened until 1982. It is the only ship lift in the Russian Federation.
