The oldest person to ski unsupported to the South Pole (male) is James Baxter (UK, b. 11 October 1959), who travelled from the Hercules Inlet to the geographic South Pole between 20 November 2023 and 19 January 2024, reaching the pole aged 64 years 100 days. He completed the 1,130-kilometre (702-mile), 61-day expedition solo, which itself represents another record.
This surpassed the previous record held by Simon Murray (UK, b. 25 March 1940), who reached the South Pole at the age of 63 years 309 days on 28 January 2004. He travelled with a trekking partner, Pen Hadow (UK), so his expedition was not solo.
