The most gold medals won in men's ice hockey at the Winter Olympics by a team is eight, first achieved by the USSR (last gold medal in 1992) and later matched by Canada at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
The USSR won its gold medals in the following years: 1956, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1984, 1988 and 1992 (as the CIS, with all players Russians). Canada, meanwhile, won golds in 1920, 1924, 1928, 1932, 1948, 1952, 2002 and 2010.
