The most simultaneous on-screen enemies in a videogame is held by A Plague Tale: Requiem (Asobo Studios), released on 17 October 2022, which features up to 30,000 individual rats at once in huge swarms.

The first game in Asobo's rat-tastic series, A Plague Tale: Innocence (2019), crammed in a respectable 5,000 rats at once. They developed a special technique using four layers of detail, rendering the rats farther away from the player in less detail than those closest, which enabled thousands of rats to act in the swarm at once. This technology was improved for the sequel, allowing for what technical director Nicolas Bécavin described as "a tsunami of rats".

This record was previously held by Dead Rising 2 (Blue Castle Games, 2010), which featured up to 1,000 shambling zombies on screen at once, before being beaten by Dead Rising 3 (Capcom Vancouver, 2013), which upped the ante quite considerably to 21,000.
