Most Oscar nominations without winning

Sound mixer Kevin O'Connell (USA) received 20 Oscar nominations for Sound starting with Terms of Endearment (USA, 1983) at the 1984 Academy Awards – without a single win. His luck finally changed at the 2017 ceremony, where he shared a Best Sound Mixing award with Andy Wright, Robert Mackenzie and Peter Grace (all AUS) for Hacksaw Ridge (USA/AUS, 2016).
