The most Olympic medals won at a single Games by a female is seven, achieved by Maria Gorokhovskaya (USSR/Ukraine), who won two gold and five silver medals in artistic gymnastics at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics in Finland; and equalled by Emma McKeon (Australia), who won four gold and three bronze medals in swimming at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan in 2021.
McKeon became the first female swimmer to win seven medals at a single Games in Tokyo. She won gold in the 50 m and 100 m freestyle, women's 4 x 100 m freestyle relay and 4 x 100 m medley relay. She claimed a bronze in the 100 m butterfly, women's 4 x 200 m freestyle relay and 4 x 100 m mixed medley relay.
Gymnast Gorokhovskaya claimed seven medals in 1952, the Soviet Union’s first Olympics. She won the team and all-around competition and took silvers in the vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor and the team portable apparatus event.
