Ronaldo claimed the outright record at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scoring a penalty against Ghana during Portugal’s 3–2 Group H victory on 24 November 2022. It was the 37-year-old’s eighth career World Cup goal. The players to score at four World Cups are West Germany’s Uwe Seller and Brazil’s Pelé (both 1958–70), Germany’s Miroslav Klose (2002–14) and Argentina’s Lionel Messi (2006 and 2014–22).
