The most chin ups in 24 hours is 5,340, and was achieved by Idai Makaya (UK), in Milton Keynes, UK, on 25-26 September 2020.
Idai (46), a health and fitness coach, surpassed the previous record by 246 reps.
Idai lost his brother Garai in 2017 after a skydiving accident in South Africa. Garai had been a keen skydiver who used his skydiving activities to raise money for charitable causes in Botswana.
Idai took on the chin-ups 24-hour world record attempt in memory of his late brother and to raise awareness and funds for a project which he started working on in 2018 when he completed a 1,720-mile endurance ride twice across Britain on a stand-up bike to set a new Guinness World Records title for fastest return journey from Land's End to John-O'-Groats by elliptical cycle (male).
The goal of his project is to set up a charitable foundation in Garai’s memory and to make a documentary film about Garai Makaya and the skydiving community he founded in Botswana. The proceeds of the documentary film will also support the charitable foundation.
