Ramón Campayo, of Spain, successfully memorised 68 binary digits in the space of just 3 seconds during a demonstration on 1 August 2009 at the German Open Memory Championships in Hamburg. That’s over 22 binary digits memorized per second. The digits were displayed simultaneously for the 3-second period on a computer screen, after which he recited them all without error. Campayo has actually held this record since 2003, when he memorized 48 binary digits in three seconds. Between 2005 and 2009 he broke his own record four times, memorizing 50, 52, 62 and then 64 digits, before finally raising the bar to 68.
