Driveclub (Evolution, 2014) boasts a draw distance of up to 200 km (124 miles), the longest in any racing videogame. The game also simulates the curvature of the Earth and, according to Sony, this PS4 exclusive had distant landscapes that are built out and fully modelled. The map landscapes and mountain formations use high-res data from NASA.
The previous record holder was Codemasters’ game FUEL, which boasted a draw distance of 40 km (24.8 miles). FUEL’s racing environment is inspired by the North American wilderness and allows gamers a view of recognizable landmarks including Death Valley and Mount Rushmore. The landscape, modelled from satellite data and rendered by the game engine, is battered by weather effects including blizzards, tsunamis and tornadoes.
