The largest videogame tournament was the 2017 FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC17), which had at least 7 million participants contesting in its qualifying process from 1 November 2016 to 5 August 2017. The Grand Final took place in Westminster Central Hall in London, UK, from 16–18 August with 32 finalists. As the name suggests, players compete in the latest iteration of EA's FIFA videogame.

Qualification for the tournament, known as the "Road to London" was largely achieved through first competing in online seasons on the PlayStation and Xbox servers. In addition, there was a qualifying competition – the FIFA Interactive Club World Cup – which was for pro FIFA players attached to pro soccer clubs. This was staged on 5 August 2017.

Following the end of the FIWC17, EA and FIFA announced that the tournament was changing its name to the FIFA eWorld Cup.
