England (414 for 5) crushed South Africa (72 all out) by 342 runs at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton, UK, on 7 September 2025. The highest margin of victory by runs in a One-Day International (ODI) was made possible by 21-year-old Jacob Bethell’s first professional century (110), allied with scores from Joe Root (100), Jamie Smith (62) and Jos Buttler (62 not out). Bowlers Jofra Archer (4 for 18), Adil Rashid (3 for 13) and Brydon Carse (2 for 33) then skittled the visitors in 20.5 overs, with South Africa captain Temba Bavuma unable to bat owing to a calf injury.
India’s (390 for 5) 317-run demolition of Sri Lanka (73 all out) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, on 15 January 2023, had been the largest ODI victory by runs before England’s demolition of South Africa. South Africa took the three-match ODI series 2-1, having won the first two games at Headingley (2 September) and Lord’s (4 September). The overall ODI record remains with New Zealand’s women (455 for 5), who obliterated Pakistan (47 all out) by 408 runs in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 29 January 1997.
