By 299–273 million years ago, all of today’s continents were joined together in one “supercontinent”, Pangea (which means “all lands” in Greek). Pangea began to slowly break apart around 200 million years ago due to plate tectonics, leading eventually to the land masses of today. Evidence of Pangea is apparent when you see how the coastlines of Africa and South America fit together.
