Largest collection of film cameras

The largest collection of film cameras is 1,645, and was achieved by Arcot Vasantha Arun (India), in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, on 5 October 2023.

Outside of Arun's day job as a dentist, he is an avid collector of film cameras. His passion began in 1997 when he came across two broken down, twin lens cameras in Chennai. He was interested in their design and decided to buy them despite their condition. Slowly, he started visiting the British Council Library to read more about antique and vintage cameras (before internet was introduced in his area).

Friends started to give him their old used cameras to add to his collection and then in 2013, the world camera fair came to Chennai and Arun was invited by the organised to display 200 of his vintage cameras to the public. The event was a huge success and gave him overnight recognition as a camera collector. In 2017, he opened India's first museum for vintage cameras named Dr. Arun's photography and vintage camera museum.

Arun's friend had recently achieved the record for the largest collection of clocks which is what sparked his desire to attempt this record. To this day, his film collection is growing.
