Colombia remains the world’s leading supplier of cocaine to the world’s drug markets producing around 70 per cent of the world’s supply. According to US officials, ninety per cent of the cocaine reaching the USA comes from Columbia through the left wing Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), one of the world’s most powerful guerrilla armies - described as half terrorists and half drug traffickers and the “face of global crime in the 21st century”. In 2007, Colombia had 167,000 hectares in coca production producing a potential 535 metric tonnes of pure cocaine.
