The first hovercraft public service was run across the Dee estuary between Rhyl, Denbighshire, Wales and Wallasey, Merseyside, England by the 60 knot (111 km/h; 69 mph) 24-passenger Vickers-Armstrong VA-3 between 20 July and September 1962.
