The highest sword throw was 21.275 m (69 ft 9 in) and was achieved by Hazza Sulaiman Al Shehhi at Fujairah Fort, as part of the Fujairah Crown Prince Award and Al Saif traditional sword competition at Fujairah Fort, Fujairah, UAE, on 26 November 2010. Hazza Sulaiman al Shehhi is 18 years of age and had initially entered the Al Saif traditional swords competition which had been initiated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, the Crown Prince of Fujairah. After being eliminated in the final round after failing to receive enough votes from the audience, he had then been put forward to achieve a Guinness World Records title for the highest sword throw. It has been noted that Hazza has a special technique for throwing the sword which can be said of him as a young boy when he first threw his sword. Hazza had three attempts of throwing the sword as high as he could and eventually managed to reach the maximum height he had ever achieved which was 21.275m. The attempt had been measured using videography and a high precision laser measuring meter called the Leica Disto D8. With such precision the laser was able to read the distance the highest point of the sword had reached from the ground. This event was part of a day of festivities and celebrations that had highlighted the significance of the sword within the culture and traditions that are still kept in many tribes within Fujairah.
