Pixar's Finding Dory (USA, 2016), the long-awaited sequel to Finding Nemo (USA, 2003), grossed $54,746,405 (£38.6 million) from 4,305 US cinemas on 17 June 2016 – the highest grossing 24 hours for an animated movie. It premiered in the USA on 8 June 2016.
Finding Dory also set records for fastest animated movie to gross $100 million and highest-grossing opening weekend for an animation (domestic).
It is the 34th highest grossing day for a movie overall; in No.1 spot is Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens (USA, 2015), which took $119,119,282 on 18 December 2015.
