Stranger Things (Netflix, USA; 2016–present) was the most popular TV show in the world in 2022–23, according to data science firm Parrot Analytics, with a global demand rating 104.3 times greater than that of the average TV show.


The series premiered on 15 July 2016 and to date has released four seasons; the fifth and final season has been slated to start recording in May 2023. In 2022–23, Stranger Things was also the most in-demand drama TV show, most in-demand sci-fi TV show and most in-demand digital original TV show.

The sci-fi/horror series, which is set in the 1980s, follows a group of high-school kids living in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, who unwittingly uncover the monstrous fallout from a bodged scientific investigation that the authorities will do anything to keep under wraps. It is directed by the Duffer Brothers.
