Game of Thrones (HBO, USA) was the most popular TV show in the world in 2020-21, according to data-science firm Parrot Analytics, with a global demand rating 74.1 greater than that of the average TV show. Inspired by George R R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy novels, the show premiered in 2011. Over the course of eight seasons (the last of which originally aired on 14 April 2019), the series explores the dynastic power struggles played out in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and on the continent of Essos.
As of April 2021, the series is also the most in-demand drama TV series and most in-demand TV series based on a book adaptation.
