Of the major landmasses of Earth, Australia is the only one to lack a major mountain range. The highest point on its mainland is the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, at 2,228 metres (7,309 feet) above sea level and its lowest natural point is 15.2 metres (49 feet 10 inches) below sea level in the Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre basin in South Australia. Australia's mean elevation is just 330 metres (1,082 feet) above sea level, not including its outlying islands.
