The first Paralympian to compete at the Olympic Games was archer Neroli Fairhall MBE (New Zealand, 1944-2006), who competed in the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1984 after representing her country at the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Heidelberg, West Germany, and the 1980 Summer Paralympics in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
Fairhall, who competed in track and field events only in 1972, made her Paralympics archery debut in 1980, winning the gold medal in the women's double FITA round competition. At the Summer Olympics in 1984, she finished 35th in the same event.
