The first NFL regular-season game played outside the United States was contested at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico, on 2 October 2005, between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers (both USA). A crowd of 103,467 – the highest attendance ever for an NFL regular season game – saw the Cardinals win, 31-14.
