The first married man to give birth was achieved by Thomas Beatie (USA) in Bend, Oregon, USA, on 29 June 2008.
Thomas underwent gender confirmation surgery in 2002, but had kept his reproductive organs intact as he knew he wanted to have children. Thomas and his wife Nancy, whom he married in 2003, conceived using an anonymous sperm donor, and would go on to have three children together, all carried by Thomas. Thomas would later marry Amber Nichols, who in 2018 gave birth to the couple’s first child together, using the same sperm donor as for his previous three children.
