On 2 June 1980, Atari’s Battlezone featured the first truly 3D battlefield environment and impressed the United States Armed Forces so much they commissioned Atari to build specially modified versions for possible use in training gunners on tanks. Only two prototypes were produced and it remains uncertain if they were ever used in a training environment. Guinness World Records Gamers' Edition 2009.
