Tina Sjögren reached the North Pole on 29 May 2002 to become the first woman to complete the Three Poles Challenge - the conquest of the North and South Poles plus Mount Everest (regarded as a 'pole' owing to its inaccessibility). Tina had previously summitted Everest on 26 May 1999 and reached the South Pole on 2 February 2002. Tina (who was born in Czechoslovakia but moved to Sweden at the age of 9 as a political refugee) is married to fellow explorer Tom Sjogren (Sweden), who accompanied her on each trip.
