The earliest animal to walk on land was Pederpes finneyae , which lived around 350 million years ago. This tetrapod was discovered in 1971 north of Dumbarton, Scotland, UK. The identification of the legs, and one complete foot, was made in 2002, and announced on 4 July 2002. The identification was made by Dr Jenny Clack, University Museum of Zoology, University of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
