Columbia Pictures became the first big studio to venture into the 3D movie market with their release of Man in the Dark (USA, 1953) on 9 April 1953. The movie a remake of the 1936 film noir The Man Who Lived Twice (USA) was rushed out to capitalize on the 3D craze, and wowed audiences with scenes in which spiders, fists and dead bodies loomed out of the screen.
