Open-water swimming takes place in open oceans, seas, rivers, canals, etc. The first, and therefore fastest, swim along the length of the Persian Gulf is by 34-year-old Mohammad Kobadi (Iran). In 84 days between 19 December 2011 and 12 March 2012, Kobadi swam 1,051 km (653 miles), in stages, from the Strait of Hormuz to Arvand Kenar along the coast of southeastern Iran, averaging 11.7 km (7.2 miles) per day. The achievement was ratified by Open Water Source.
