Competing at the 2026 Novuna London Athletics Meet, Josh Kerr took nearly half a second off Hicham El Guerrouj’s mile world record of 3:43.13, which had stood for 27 years. Kerr’s record run marked the successful completion of his “Project 222” – the number of seconds in which he hoped to complete the distance. Kerr is a world champion and Olympic silver medallist over 1,500 m.
