The fastest solo and unsupported crossing of the North Atlantic by sea kayak was achieved by Peter Bray (UK) in 76 days from 22 June 2001 to 5 September 2001, when he paddled from St John's, Newfoundland, Canada, to Belderrig, Ireland.
His kayak Newt had a cabin 2 m (6.5 ft) long and 70 cm (27.5 in) tall at its highest point. Everything in the cabin had to be tightly strapped down, including Peter in his bed at night.
