On 25 June 2000, Tomoe Abe (Japan) completed the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 100 km Race in Lake Saroma, Hokkaido, Japan, in a time of 6 hours 33 minutes 11 seconds. In Abe’s first ever 100 km race, she beat Ann Trason’s existing mark of 7 hours 48 seconds by almost half an hour.
As of January 2015, the IAU no longer classifies World Best Performances by surface, creating a single combined list of fastest times.
