The farthest indoor long jump by a female athlete is 7.37 m (24 ft 2.15 in), by Heike Drechsler (East Germany) during an international match between East Germany, Vienna and Austria on 13 February 1988. She broke her own record of 7.32 m (24 ft 0.18 in).

Drechsler had previously set world records of 7.44 m and 7.45 m (twice) in the outdoor long jump. She had also set world records in the indoor and outdoor 200 m – 22.27 seconds and 21.71 seconds (twice) respectively.
