The best-selling videogame is Minecraft, which was initially released on the PC in May 2009 with a full commercial release in November 2011. According to figures released by Microsoft (which purchased Minecraft's developer, Mojang Studios, in 2014) in April 2021, Minecraft has sold a total of 238 million copies worldwide.
Microsoft estimate that around 50% of children aged 9–11 in North America and Europe play <em>Minecraft</em> regularly, and that the overall playerbase amounts to 150 million monthly active users. <em>Minecraft</em>-related content is also one of the most popular categories on YouTube, accounting for around 200 billion views in 2020.
