The Grammy Awards are recognized the world over as the “Oscars” of the music industry. On 13 February 2011, Civilization IV became the first game to feature a Grammy-winning theme song. Composer Christopher Tin (USA) won in the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) category with “Baba Yetu”, some six years after the song gained acclaim and attention as the opening theme of Civilization IV.

Tin included the song on his 2009 album, Calling All Dawns, which is how it became eligible for a Grammy in 2011. The piece features the Soweto Gospel Choir and the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra.
