Announced by Twin Galaxies on 31 December 2010, Andrew Laidlaw achieved an incredible score of 4,525,150 points on Galaga (Namco, 1981) on Twin Galaxies’ Tournament Settings, which uses the game’s hardest “difficulty” setting and allows players just five lives.
Andrew’s feat beat the previous record set by fellow American Phil Day by 1,249,430 points. According to local newspaper reports, it was the pair’s rivalry that led to them becoming friends, with Phil sending Andrew footage of his gameplay to help his challenger prepare for the record.
