The race for ever-increasing reality in videogame car graphics is driving the developers to increase the number of polygons, the discrete 2D shapes used to build the cars. The previous polygon record holder was PS3 title Gran Turismo 5 (Polyphony Digital, 2010), with 400,000 polygons per vehicle. Forza Motorsport 4 has now comfortably eclipsed this figure by doubling it with an astonishing 800,000 polygons per car.
Forza Motorsport 4 comes with a new and special feature – the BBC’s Top Gear test track, based in Surrey, England, is part of the game. In addition, Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson provides the commentary. If you want to drive on the real track, you’ll need to be a “star in a reasonably priced car” or work for McLaren, who also use the facility.
