At 39 min 57 sec, The Orb's (UK) "Blue Room" is the longest ever single to make the UK Official Singles Chart, debuting at No.12 on 20 June 1992 and reaching its peak position of No.8 a week later.

In 1992, The Orb was based around founding member Alex Paterson and Kris 'Thrash' Weston, who co-wrote "Blue Room", although several other musicians contributed to the single.

An edited version of "Blue Room" appears on the 1992 No.1 album U.F. Orb.

Gallup, who were responsible for compiling the chart in 1992, ruled that any song lasting longer than 40 minutes would be classed as an album, so The Orb stuck to the rules to set the record - with three seconds to spare.
