According to downloading news site Torrentfreak.com, which collates data annually from all public BitTorrent trackers, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was downloaded over 1.4 million times from its release on 23 May 2010 to the end of December the same year. This beat the 1.1 million times New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo, 2009) was downloaded.
