On 22 July 2009, Xbox 360 title Splosion Man became the first ever 2D platformer to feature a simultaneous four-player mode. Although not as successful as the better-known four-player New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo EAD, 2009), it beat Nintendo’s game to the accolade by four months.
'Splosion Man, part of the 2009 Xbox Live Summer of Arcade promotion, had sold 400,000 copies by January 2011, and was voted Best Original XBLA Game of 2009 by Xbox Live players. It also spawned a sequel, Ms. Splosion Man.
