Most lines cleared on Tetris (NES Nintendo version)

Stacking up an impressive 296 lines, Ben Mullen took the title for the most lines scored on the Nintendo version of Tetris on 22 July 2008. When it comes to the record on the NES platform overall, however, Ben has to get in line. Because of a dispute between Atari and Nintendo over who held the licence to adapt Alexey Pajitnov’s Tetris for gaming platforms outside of Soviet Russia, there are two different versions of Tetris for the NES. Ultimately – and after several lawsuits – Nintendo prevailed, but not before Atari’s home-console division Tengen had released their own version of the game. The most lines on the NES Tengen version of Tetris – and on Tetris for the NES platform overall – is 1,502 lines, slotted together by Thor Aackerlund (USA) on 12 August 2010.
