The first person to perform a triple lutz in a figure skating competition was Donald Jackson (Canada), at the 1962 World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia, on 15 March 1962. Jackson won the men's title at the 1962 World Figure Skating Championships, as well as the bronze medal at the 1960 Winter Olympic Games.
