The smallest object cut by sword at over 700 km/h (434.96 mph) is a tennis ball 6.7 cm (2.63 in) in diameter, which was cut by Isao Machii (Japan) at a speed of 708 km/h (440 mph) on the set of Tobidase Kagakukun (TBS) in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, Japan, on 8 September 2011.
The machine that shot the tennis ball was made by Professor Hattori from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. The machine used a vacuum which made it capable of shooting the tennis ball at a very high velocity. Mr Machii was able to cut the ball in his 5 attempt. This record can be also considered as the fastest tennis ball cut with a sword.
