The cast of the TV series Glee (Fox, USA, 2009-15) amassed 207 entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 between 6 June 2009 and 26 October 2013. Cover versions of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” (No.4) and Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” (No.98) kick-started the collective’s prolific chart run, with Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” (No.84) providing the musical comedy-drama with its final chart entry.
Glee lost a share of the overall Hot 100 record on 21 March 2020, when rapper/singer Drake debuted at No.89 with his 208th entry, “Oprah’s Bank Account”, (credited to Lil Yachty, Drake & DaBaby). Drake’s first Hot 100 hit, “Best I Ever Had”, debuted at No.92 on 23 May 2009 – two weeks before the Glee Cast made their chart debut on 6 June 2009.
Glee cast members (including Chris Colfer, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison and Amber Riley) amassed 54 entries in the first 54 weeks on the Hot 100 from 6 June 2009. Although the majority of tracks spent just one week on the chart, Glee racked up single-track downloads of 11.5 million by October 2010, including their million-selling debut “Don’t Stop Believin’”, which garnered a Platinum certificate from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on 16 March 2011.
As of 21 March 2020, the 10 acts with the most entries on the Hot 100 since its inception on 4 August 1958 were: Drake – 208; Glee Cast – 207; Lil Wayne – 168; Elvis Presley – 109; Nicki Minaj – 108; Kanye West – 107; Jay-Z – 100; Chris Brown – 99; Taylor Swift – 97; Future – 93. The Beatles, with 71 Hot 100 hits between 1962 and 1996, are Glee’s closest challenger for the group title.
