The oldest person to row solo across any ocean is Frank Rothwell (UK, b. 9 July 1950), who departed from San Sebastian, La Gomera (Canary Islands, Spain) aged 73 years 157 days on 13 December 2023 in the vessel Never Too Old, and arrived 64 days later at English Harbour, Antigua, aged 73 years 221 days on 15 February 2024.

This, of course, also makes Rothwell the oldest person to row solo across the Atlantic; he surpassed his previous record, having completed the same east-to-west route covering about 3,000 nautical miles (5,554 km; 3,450 mi) from La Gomera to Antigua between 12 December 2020 and 6 February 2021, arriving aged 70 years 212 days.

On both rows, Rothwell was seeking to raise funds for the charity Alzheimer's Research UK.

Away from adventures on the high seas, Rothwell is the chair of Oldham Athletic AFC.
