Two pieces of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s wedding cake, preserved since their wedding day on 10 February 1840, went on display at The Drawings Gallery, Windsor Castle, Windsor, UK, for the first time on 27 April 2007. On the opening day of the exhibition, which celebrated royal marriages, the cake was 167 years 2 months 17 days old.
The oldest intact wedding cake - as opposed to fragments - dates from 1898. The cake, in pristine conditions, except for a large crack in the icing caused by a Second World War bomb blast, was originally on display in the window of a family bakery, in Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK, which closed in 1964. It was found in a loft in 2007 by the baker's daughter, who donated it to the Willis Museum in Basingstoke.
