The largest stack of casino chips is 340, and was achieved by Travis Stich and the Minnesota Chip Stackers (all USA) in Shakopee, Minnesota, USA, on 19 October 2021.
Travis explains that he has always wanted to achieve a Guinness World Records title since he was a child. "I finally decided to give it an attempt a couple years ago after some encouragement from my own children. I discovered I had the ability to achieve this record shortly after I discovered the title on the GWR website and started experimenting with it. I chose this record because I am a professional poker dealer and work with casino chips every day. Training involved several practice runs with my family and I at home in the weeks leading up to the official attempt."
He says that the act of training itself was not difficult for this record. One issue was that because he decided to make this a group record with over 20 family, friends, and coworkers, he was not able to get everyone together for a practice run ahead of time. Some of them had not practiced at all, so he had to explain the guidelines and process just before the attempt to ensure they knew what to do and didn't accidentally knock the stack over!
He expands on this by saying "The biggest challenge was not the attempt itself, as the stacking of chips went pretty smoothly. The largest issue I had was pulling everything else off...coordinating all the participants, the host, the videographer, the media, and trying to make it a fun, well-run event for everyone. I learned quite a bit about organizing a group GWR record attempt with this event, and am already looking forward to my next group attempt!"
Travis is an existing record holder and has previously achieved titles such as most playing cards consecutively thrown into a target and most playing cards from a deck thrown into a target.
He ends with the following "Becoming a GWR record holder has been incredibly exciting and helping pull off a group record like this has been an amazing experience. I can't wait to let everyone involved know that they can call themselves Guinness World Records title holders!"
