The most Tour de France races completed by an individual rider is 16, by Hendrik “Joop” Zoetemelk (Netherlands) in 1970–73 and 1975–86; and Sylvain Chavanel (France) in 2001–2006, 2008–2011 and 2013–2018.
Zoetemelk finished every Tour de France he entered, recording one Tour win, in 1980, and six second-place finishes. Chavanel equalled his record in 2018 on his 18th appearance on the Tour – also a record.
