The fastest time to solve a rotating puzzle cube upside down is 8.91 seconds and was achieved by Ethan Jan (USA) in Redlands, California, USA, on 5 December 2021.
Ethan has seen several editions of the Guinness World Records book and he was very young when he was first introduced to the Guinness World Records concept. Since then, he has always been fascinated by the different world record titles. One day, while practising Rubik's Cubes, he realized that a GWR title might be achievable for him, so he started to set his goals for it.
He practised for many hours every day and constantly expressed his desire to achieve a GWR title. However, he was not aiming for any specific record title at the time. Instead, Ethan just focused on improving his skills.
After Ethan realized that solving Rubik's cubes upside down was a possible GWR title, he decided time towards practicing it, which was a little different than solving the cube vertically. As he was getting faster in his practice, he quickly realized that he would be able to break the record!
Solving Rubik's Cubes upside down is a skill that many people don't think about much, due to its uniqueness. Ethan expects to promote upside-down resolution as this is not done very often, but sometimes it can be more fun to watch.
For him, the training was simple, mostly by solving Rubik's cubes. However, hanging upside down was a much bigger challenge for Ethan, as he wasn't used to the condition, especially with the blood rushing to his head at a much faster rate.
On the day of the attempt, Ethan felt a little nervous and found it difficult to maintain his composure during the attempt. However, he took a few deep breaths, and it all worked out.
Achieving this Guinness World Records title is an important self-achievement for Ethan. A large part of his life and career in Rubik’s cubes involved solving the cubes alone in his room, and he did not find opportunities to publicly show people the talents he had developed.
Recently, Ethan has been trying to show his skills to the public more often, and having a GWR title would push him further in promoting speedcubing as well as putting himself out there!
