The planetarium of the Nagoya City Science Museum (Japan) features a hemispherical dome with an internal diameter of 35.02 m (114 ft 10.74 in). The almost perfectly spherical building that houses the planetarium measures 39.2 m (129 ft) in height and is suspended 11.4 m (37 ft) above ground. The planetarium is part of the Nagoya City Science Museum, located in the Shirakawa Park, Nagoya, Japan. It was officially inaugurated on 19 March 2011 by Takashi Kawamura, Mayor of Nagoya City.
The Nagoya facility is classed as a non-oriented, untilted, hybrid planetarium. It can accommodate 350 seated visitors. The projectors used are customized Universarium IX models supplied by Carl Zeiss AG (Germany). The dome was supplied by Konica Minolta Planetarium Co, Ltd (Japan). The dome measurement was carried out by Kobe Seiko Co,., Ltd (Japan), using a 3D terrestrial laser scanner, the Leica Geosystems HDS3000, taking a total of 674,941 data points, with an average error of 5 mm (0.20 in).
