Most hit singles in a year in the UK

In 2011, the cast of the popular TV series Glee (USA) extended the record they set in 2010 for most hit singles in a calendar year with a total of 51 entries on the UK singles chart. Added to the 45 songs that made the top 75 in 2010, the musical comedy-drama, which moved from E4/Channel 4 to Sky in 2011, has produced a staggering 96 hit singles and generated UK sales of 3.7 million since December 2009. In the US, after eclipsing Elvis Presley’s 108 singles chart entries in February 2011, Glee had extended their record for most hit singles (US) to 179, including 90 entries from series 2 alone, by the end of 2011. Glee’s actors/singers have now sold 36 million singles and 11 million albums worldwide.
